Aaron of Resonance Reviews received the AP80 PRO MAX as a review sample from HIDIZS at CanJam SoCal 2025. His unit is the Linsoul collaboration edition, listed at $189 when his review was published. After about a month of daily use with more than a dozen IEMs, he adopted it as his everyday player for listening outside the house.
Portable Audio That Stays Portable
Portability is central to Aaron’s assessment of any DAP, and the AP80 PRO MAX fits that priority well. He finds its aluminum chassis sturdy, compact and easy to carry in a pocket, with no perceivable flex. The IPS screen is sharp and vibrant, while the physical controls are well designed.
He also values the Linux-based HiBy OS because it avoids the bloat he associates with Android-based players.
Reliable Playback and Useful EQ
For Aaron, the AP80 PRO MAX provides transparent and reliable playback, acting as an impartial part of the audio chain. His battery testing averaged 10.13 hours through the 3.5mm output and 9.4 hours balanced at moderate volumes, although he notes that he did not test particularly demanding transducers.
The OS-wide graphic EQ is another strength, offering an implementation he considers approachable while retaining enough functionality for more advanced users.
Wireless Features With One Limitation
Aaron successfully connected his wireless headphones and IEMs and experienced no abnormal disconnects while moving around his room. He also tested AirPlay and DLNA successfully, although AirPlay initially required cycling Wi-Fi off and on.
The AP80 PRO MAX supports only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, not 5GHz, which may matter to some streaming users.
Minor Software and Storage Friction
The player remained stable throughout Aaron’s testing and never crashed or experienced a serious bug. However, he encountered several smaller usability issues. Rapidly skipping tracks could temporarily confuse album art or track information, while larger libraries introduced some interface latency.
Slow storage cards could also cause hitching with heavier files or delayed album artwork. Aaron found higher-quality, larger-capacity cards performed better.
He additionally criticizes USB 2.0 transfer speeds as inadequate for efficiently moving large libraries to high-capacity storage. HIDIZS told him that fixes and improvements for reported software issues were on the way, but his review does not independently verify those future updates.
Overall Assessment
At roughly $190 when reviewed, Aaron considers the AP80 PRO MAX a strong combination of portability, build, features and audio performance. It suits listeners using IEMs or less-demanding headphones who value convenience, local playback and streaming.
It is less suitable for users expecting smartphone-level interface responsiveness, requiring 5GHz Wi-Fi, or needing enough power for demanding headphones. For Aaron’s own priorities, its convenience and compact footprint were convincing enough to make it his daily portable player.
