HIDIZS MP145 Pro Review - DucBloke

The original HIDIZS MP145 made waves in the audiophile community for its massive sound and unique aesthetic. Now, with the release of the HIDIZS MP145 Pro, the brand is taking things a step further—not just in technical performance, but in purpose. This release is a collaboration with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), where a portion of the proceeds directly supports marine life protection.

As "DucBloke" notes in his latest review ahead of CanJam NYC, the "Pro" designation brings significant quality-of-life upgrades that make this much more than a simple retune.

Unboxing the Upgrades

Pro vs. OG While the original MP145 was already a solid package, the Pro version justifies its slightly higher price tag with a significantly more premium accessory set:

Modular Cable: The Pro features a thicker, higher-quality cable with interchangeable 3.5mm and 4.4mm plugs, eliminating the need for separate cables for balanced sources.
Premium Case: Upgraded to a larger, embossed leather-style carrying case.

Anemone Ear Tips: Included alongside the standard tips, these high-quality silicone tips come highly recommended for their comfort and seal.

Physical & Driver Enhancements

The shell retains its iconic look, but the CNC machining has been refined to better resemble a "whale's tail". Under the hood, the 14.5mm planar driver has been overhauled with an upgraded magnetic circuit, boasting a 40% increase in magnetic flux and a new diaphragm material.

For those who prefer a heavier, more premium feel, a Titanium version is also available, which the host notes provides a secure "pendulum weight" when used with wireless ear hooks.

The Sound

Technical Precision Meets PEQ DucBloke’s testing process is rigorous, involving 35 different PEQ (Parametric EQ) profiles to find the perfect balance.

Here is how the sound breaks down:

Bass — Technical but Lean Stock: Out of the box, the OG MP145 actually has more bass quantity and a warmer, more "neutral" feel. The Pro is leaner in the lows stock, but after applying PEQ to elevate the bass, it matches the original’s impact while offering better texture.

Midrange — Clear and Layered: The Pro excels in layering and instrument separation. The midrange is transparent, though it can feel a bit "bright" compared to the original's lush warmth.

Treble — Detailed with a Sparkle: The Pro is a detail monster. It provides superior upper-treble extension and soundstage width. However, DucBloke warns of a slight 6kHz bump that can introduce minor sibilance. His solution? Use the Red Nozzle (Bass Filter) to tame that energy and achieve the warmest, most comfortable signature.

The Verdict

Is the Pro Worth It? DucBloke’s final scoring places both the original and the Pro at a phenomenal 9.46 after EQ.

If you already own the OG MP145: You don’t need to upgrade purely for the sound. The difference is subtle once EQ is applied.

If you are a new buyer: Get the MP145 Pro. For roughly $30 more, you get the superior modular cable, the better case, the Anemone tips, and you support a great cause with the WDC.

Ultimately, the Pro is a "technical beast" that rewards the user who isn't afraid to use a little EQ to unlock its full potential
